President’s Message, printed in the Oregon State Bar Bulletin, June 2024
One of the privileges afforded OSB presidents is participation on the Oregon Bench and Bar Commission on Professionalism. To work with lawyers striving to see the practice of law in its most aspirational light — this work is close to my heart.
In working together, I am inspired by the connection between professionalism and mindfulness and the shared emphasis on intentionality, presence and non-reactivity. It reminds me of a quote attributed to President Abraham Lincoln, which goes,“Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
